ONLY GOD KNOWS!!
As i sat to right this piece, my nine-month old son crawls on the carpet infront of my crowded study table. The question i ask myself is, How is his Ghana going to be?
Judging from my Ghana now,it will take something extraordinary to make his Ghana that world that gives opprotunity for all to prosper. Majority of my generation are very much disillusioned by the way our Ghana is being run.
How is my Ghana being run? The simple answer is ,my Ghana is being run without a PLAN. There is no plan as to how employment will be generated ,corruption will be tackled (in my Ghana,no one is corrupt in a party in power yet monies get stolen,what a Ghana!),education and healthcare will be improved,water will be provided ,infact there is no plan for anything.
The other day in Takoradi, there was a ceremony at the harbor where a ship was commissioned to solely cart away manganese from Ghana and the head of the takoradi port was happy to as like many of the people who are supposed to be our leaders, read the key-note address.Among other things he said,he said the ship would bring about employment and as i watched,i could not help but shake my head in anger.How can a ship bought by private individuals who used money they have made right under our very noses provide employment when the product they will be carting is in the raw form.What the head of the port does not know is ,the ship is carting the jobs too away(the story of our huge natural resource reserves). When they take our jobs away to their countries, our shameless leaders then go cup in hand to them and humiliate our sovereignty. How can we go begging for $300,000 from the Australian government as a sovereign nation?
The one thing that bleeds my heart are the young people in Ghanaian politics now, these people who are supposed to be angry and act against the wrongs of the system to create a better future for our generation and beyond are drowned in such pathetic corruption. They use their youthful exuberance to defend corruption form their corrupt godfathers after all he who grinds the sweet scented seeds has his hands smelling good after grinding. My Ghana seems to be deteriorating with greed,dishonesty, utter incompetence in high places.How can we then build a better future for my son, ONLY GOD KNOWS.
